This is a question that we get asked often.  The answer is easy and complex.

Is it a molded fence?

The term molded comes from the manufacturing process.  SimTek fencing panels are made like a waffle you would eat for breakfast.  There is a bottom mold and a top mold to simulate the patterns of the fence to look like stone or wood.  A mixture of ingredients is placed inside the rotational molding (in other words, it spins around) and super-heated.  The mixture expands inside the molding and form the fence panels, post, caps and gates.  Galvanized metal is inserted inside the panels, gates and posts to increase the strength of the fence.  It’s a time-consuming and labor-intensive process.

Is it a composite fence?

SimTek is a composite-like fence in the traditional sense.  Traditional composite fencing is made from a blend of wood fibers and recycled plastic.  SimTek is made from polyethylene, color polymers and other fillers.   Some people refer to SimTek as a composite fence because it’s designed to mimic natural stone and wood.

Is it simulated stone or wood?

SimTek is a simulated stone and wood fencing which also gives it the name stone/wood like fence.  The molds to make the fencing panels used real stone and wood to deliver the most authentic look available.   The EcoStone or Allegheny pattern is made to simulate stone and come in 5 different colors: beige, brown, dark brown, gray and dark gray.  The Sherwood or Ashland pattern simulates wood and comes in 4 different colors: brown, red cedar, gray and dark gray.

However, if you want to best description of SimTek? It’s a realistic, durable, long lasting, sustainable and maintenance-free product.
